"The Arts Society Appleby" is relatively small compared to the other Art Societies with around 100 members. Many of them live in the small rural villages surrounding the historical market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland. Due to the rurality of the Eden Valley some members travel over 40 miles to listen to our lectures - they must be worth  it, read below for some of the comments made by members regarding our recent lectures:

"A combination of wit and wisdom made this lecture exceptional. Being mathematically challenged I found it fascinating to hear a lecture on such an eternal topic delivered in terms which made it intelligible" (Life and Times of the Sundial - delivered by Mr Kevin Karney 12th April).

"A very competent lecturer, wonderful power-point presentation, made a little known subject very inspiring". (Thomas Moran: the Turner of the American West, delivered by Mr Roger Mitchell).

In addition we also enjoy some wonderful day trips, this year we are visiting the Paradise Silk Mill, Macclesfield and Tabley House, Knutsford on the 23rd May. Our residential tours this year are Venice in March and Birmingham in October 2018. For more details have a look at our "visits and tours" page.
